Inventory Management System
I've put up a web page with links to my inventory and submission manager. The page and code are rough, but should provide a new user with everything they need. I'll keep this post available and bookmarked for any questions people have.

BBBBBBbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb. If I could babble incoherently on LJ, I would. My head hurts looking at that! :)

So, um, do you have a program that all this turned into? Something that runs on your computer? Click, and it comes up, and the user uses the program without worrying about the programming code? Or do you do all this programming (Python) language for everything you do submission- wise as you do it?

I would love to have an application, but right now I don't have the capability to create one with a decent GUI, nor do I have the contacts to ask anyone to do it on more popular computing platforms. If you download and intall Python, throw these files in the folder Python looks at, it should work. Python ain't that hard.

But a real application? That would rock. Yes it would.

So I'm curious...do you spend a lot of time with this? I mean you could do a lot of submission stuff on a spreadsheet (ala Jay Lake) or some kind of application program out there. I'm just blabbing here. If it's a hobby thing and you just love to do it, to tinker, or it's your expertise and it takes no time at all...well, I'm amazed by it, even if I don't understand it! :)

Jay's spreadsheet crashes my system, and one of the flaws I find in Jay's stuff is that it's his solution, and I am notoriously individualistic that way. This thing is my solution to the tracking problem. (I don't mean to sound snarky. That's a confession more than anything.)

I spent about six hours on the ListSubmission script, and countless hours on the rest of it. I've got more, too. A cheesy GUI, activity calendars, one script will even go through the database and tell me how many submissions I had out each day that I can make a graph from.

I love this stuff. Part of it is simple writing avoidance behavior, but it does help me recharge my engines by taking me away from writing and into programming. There are days I wish I could do this for a living.
