The Big Fizzle [Photo Blog]

I think we've all been duped. The Science Club at Mt. Hood built a huge volcano over the past week. It was supposed to be the largest vinegar and baking soda volcano in the Guiness Book of World Records.

I took photos:
The Volcano
Here they are setting up. It's big.  I was taken by the small houses they added to the tarp to tease us with model destruction by fake volcano guts:
little tiny houses
They got quite a crowd to watch this thing go boom. jaylake made an appearance.

But in the end I don't think they pulled it off. They had a big compressor going, and there were folks in the volcano and I swear they held up a pipe to let the stuff fly out. It didn't bubble up like I was expecting.

Naturally, my camera died at that moment and my spare battery was upstairs being charged up. I managed to get one shot after wards.

The houses survived. You can see the pink smears on the tarp from the explosion. There are news articles on the web, I'm told. Stephanie learned they had 60 pounds of baking soda and 90 gallons of vinegar. All I can google is the recipe.

For this I skipped 45 minutes of work.

Update: There is a video here, and here
