Oh great LJ brain...
I have never worked as a tour guide, and I was wondering if anyone out there knew if tour guides have an in-joke term for the tourists they put up with. I imagine there would be. After all, in technical support we had "callers" who were "idiots," "morons," "jackasses," "New Yorkers," and "ID10T Errors." Does anyone know? Can you let me in on the secret?

Naturally, this is for a story, not because I want to go to Disneyland and act like I know their secrets.

Don't know about guide in-jokes, but up on San Juan Island, we always called them "tourons."

I thought idiots who call tech support were "AOL Users." ;-)

They were. Boy were they fun with the cup holder jokes and the footpedal problems on their Macintoshes. The memory of the guy who couldn't straighten out his envelopes and headlines haunts me to this day.

I don't know if there's a generic term, but often it's regional or specific to the attraction. For instance, a long ago girlfriend who worked on Mackinac Island (sp?) told me the tourists there were called "fudgies" by the workers, as they all want to buy the fudge made there.

Well, who wouldn't want Mackinac Island fudge? That, and riding around all day on a rented bicycle, was one of my favorite childhood memories.

Regional...specific to the attraction...

Thanks, I think I can come up with something suitably snarky.
